Note on NXEngine: NXEngine is an open source reproduction of the Cave Story engine. Most of the other ports here are built using the original source code from Pixel, but NXEngine ports are built from a fork of the NXEngine source core, at any stage of NXEngine's development. Chances are that the differences will be unnoticeable or really minor to most, but it is worth keeping in mind.
Note on NXEngine-evo: NXEngine-evo is a fork of NXEngine whose primary feature is widescreen support.

Let’s tell you more about the story of Cave Story for macOS. In the game, you take the role of a character who wakes up into a cave without remembering anything about the past. Soon he finds a village of Mimigas that is persecuted by a character called the Doctor. Next there is Misery and Balrog who want to find Sue Sakamoto, a girl transformed now into a Mimiga. But the two servants are not able to find that girl and even abduct another Mimiga named Toroko by mistake. Sue can be found in the Egg Corridor and that is your task, to get her.
We have to mention the game takes place in a floating island interior. There you will notice several Mimigas which are rabbit-like creatures. Be careful because a specific red flower that grows in the island has the power to make the Mimigas become aggressive.
